Kerry Sue Sudbury

Kerry was born in Oklahoma and is a tribal enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She grew up going to Pow Wows where there are native hoop dancers and she always loved it. Kerry is now a storyteller and native hooper herself. She was given her name Oka Anumpuli by her medicine man, who was Choctaw and Lakota. Native hoop is done in a few tribes, including Lakota, although there are other Choctaw hoop dancers too now. Kerry likes to demonstrate her culture in all communities. Native hoop has a lot of connective hoop and sacred storytelling rather than hula. Kerry encourages people not to imitate a native dance as that is culturally inappropriate, but is happy to explore possible new moves that can be put into your own hoop dance with single or multi hoops.
